Junior Coaching Programme 2014

Posted in Uncategorized on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at 12:23 am

We have now finalised the arrangements for the summer coaching program.

It will run for 13 consecutive weeks, weather permitting, with different age groups being coached on different days.

The total cost for the 13 weeks is £35.00.

Membership forms need to be completed and are available on-line HERE (you do not have to print them) and payment can be made using the PayPal facility or cheques should be payable to Kennington Cricket Club.

There will be Registration Days on 12th & 13th April when any outstanding paperwork and payments can be dealt with and the club shirts will be distributed. This is also the club groundwork week-end so if anyone is available to help prepare the club for the coming season we would be grateful of your help.

The annual Presentation Day will be held on Friday 18th July. Full details will be sent out nearer the day.

As many of you know at the recent Annual General Meeting of the Ashford & District Junior Cricket League it was decided to change the age groups for the coming season. Therefore the League will be run with under 11, 13, 15 & 17 age groups. The age of each child is determined by how old they are on 1st September 2013 although girls can be one year older.

The attached document shows which age group your child is in (please let me know if you think there has been a mistake) together with other details of the coaching and matches.

Based on the number of children that attended last year we could run:

3 x under 11 teams – They will be playing 8-a-side 16 overs per team hard ball cricket
2 x under 13 teams – They will be playing 11-a-side 20 overs per team hard ball cricket
2 x under 15 teams – They will be playing 11-a-side 20 overs per team hard ball cricket
1 x under 17 team – They will be playing 11-a-side 20 overs per team hard ball cricket

Jeremy Grove and I have identified those children (shown in bold) who we believe will form the nucleus of the 1st XI in the under 13 and under 15 age groups. This is not to say that those not currently in the squad have no opportunity. Any child not currently in the squad who shows the right attitude, commitment and ability will replace someone in the squad who is not performing to the satisfaction of the Team Manager.

We currently have one Team Manager for the under 13’s (Jeremy Grove), one Team Manager for the under 15’s (John Cunningham) and a Team Manager for the under 17 team (Alan Hart). It is not possible for these 3 Team Managers to be in two places at once and therefore to run more teams we need the following volunteers:

3 x under 11 Team Managers (plus umpire/scorer)
1 x under 13 Team Manager (plus umpire/scorer)
1 x under 15 Team Manager (plus umpire/scorer)

I appreciate that for some this request may be impossible and for others it may be difficult but by the end of February we have to inform the League how many teams we will be entering in each age group. We will only be entering the number of teams for which we have Team Managers.

I sincerely hope that the positions are filled by some of you thereby allowing the children to play competitive cricket against other clubs. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you have any queries regarding the Junior section please do not hesitate to contact me.
